Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues

Reflection

The digital media course taught me a great deal about the ethical and legal issues regarding the use of technology in the classroom. I learned the procedures I must take when publishing student work, and the privacy laws regarding students’ photographs and names (TF-VI.A.1). I have also found it important in this "Google it" generation to teach students about plagiarism, repeatedly. Most students have a very casual perspective of plagiarism, because of the leniency for school use, however they must learn about the legal issues before they get to college or the workplace.(TF-VI.A.2)

In my practice, I have found online translators to be a great equalizer in the classroom. Milby's population is 98% Hispanic, and with the integration of Limited English Proficiency students in the classroom, online website translator allow all students to access and interpret materials.(TF-VI.B.1 & TF-VI.C.1). The use of computer and web resources allow student to utilize the accessibility tools already integrated in the Microsoft operating system.

It is always a battle with counselors who want to max out a classroom, and each year we have to make sure there is one to one access for students. Some of the literature and research concerning the Texas Long Term Plan for Technology has been a great tool in this yearly debate (TF-VI.E.1).
